Ravello

The International Ravello Festival offers this year a concert performed by the soloists of Naples Chamber Orchestra within the Edvard Grieg section, dedicated to chamber music.

This section and its artistic director Carlo Torlontano aim at the fascination of the landscape and of the musical programme, which are conceived and achieved with reference to the event's leitmotiv: courage. "The courage to be weird: a daring game" will be the topic of the concert dedicated to the almost unknown Domenico Scarlatti Parisian Symphonies (Sinfonie Parigine). The Soloists of Naples Chamber Orchestra group is composed by musicians, who come from very important experiences with the main orchestras, both national and foreign, and who boast several collaborations with the greatest contemporary soloists and conductors: Aldo Matassa, Cecila Laca, Marcello Defant, Stefano Minore, violin - Francesco Fiore, viola - Gianluca Giganti, cello - Ermanno Calzolari, contrabass - Gianni Gambardella, harpsichord. The conductor Enzo Amato will mould the wonderful Sala dei Cavalieri (Knights hall) in Villa Rufolo on Sunday the 19th of July at 09:45 pm. Baroque music fans cannot miss the opportunity to listen to some of Domenico Scarlatti symphonies, whose manuscript is conserved in the French Library and it's property of the Conservatoire de Paris. There are no indications about its origin, but undoubtedly it has been there since the first half of the 19th Century. The analysis of the manuscript's watermark shows that its paper was manufactured at the beginning of the 18th Century.

The Chamber Music section of this edition is proud to present the artists on the calendar: Reiner Honeck, Konzertmeister of the prestigious Wiener Philarmoniker, in duet with the pianist Luisa Prayer; Carmela Remigio, one of the most important living sopranos, who appeared as protagonist of a very refined operatic recital with Leone Magiera, Luciano Pavarotti's historic partner; the Neapolitan musicians Roberto Cominati, who won the prestigious Busoni competition, and Edoardo Catemario, First Prize winner at the International Guitar Contest "Andreas Segovia" in duet with the soprano Gabriella Costa; Paola Gassman, who will perform a reading centred on the courageous female figure, while the virtuous guitarist Luigi Puddu will accompany her. Besides the above-mentioned Naples Chamber Orchestra, Sergio Azzolini, who is considered one of the best bassoon-player ever, together with his ensamble named Il Terzo Suono (The Third Sound). On the 6th of August an enchanting Concerto del Plenilunio (Full Moon Concert) will be performed in the beautiful Villa Cimbrone by the Leupold Trio, whose instrumentalists form the renowned baroque ensamble Combattimento Consort Amsterdam. In association with the Chigiana Academy of Siena will be also integrally performed Paganini Capricci scores. Concerts will take place in Ravello, a charming natural stage under a magical summer with a great soundtrack
